Frequently asked questions.

What are the brooms made of?

I use two types of fiber for my brooms. For most of the brooms, I use broomcorn — also known as sorghum. For my mini altar brooms, I use tampico fiber — a fiber derived from the Mexican Agave lechuguilla plant. The broom handles are made of ash wood.

How do I take care of my broom?

Some of the brooms are intended to be decorative or used gently in ritual, spellwork, or ceremony. Some examples include smoke fans, door brooms, brooms that are adorned with dried flowers, witch bells, etc. These items should be handled with care to avoid damage to the adornments. It is recommended to hang your door brooms and witch bells on the inside of your door, or on the outside only if there is a covered porch or a second glass door protecting it.

All other brooms are meant to be used. Yes, even if they’re pretty to look at! Broomcorn is a very durable fiber, so don’t hesitate to sweep with it.

All brooms come with a hanger — this is because if the broom is stored with bristle on the ground, it will start to bend and warp over time. hang it on a wall or in a closet by its hanger, or place it bristle up with the stick on the ground.

If your broom starts to get dirty from all the sweeping, it’s okay to gently wash the bristle with water and a little soap. Make sure to hang it to dry after — avoid getting your broom soaking wet, as the fiber can collect mildew.
